G7 agrees to release 100 million barrels of oil and diesel
Trump says Europe will move diesel stocks immediately as G7 coordinates a four-month reserve release
U.S. President Donald Trump said Europe had agreed to release a “massive” amount of diesel from stockpiles, and G7 leaders later confirmed a coordinated release of 100 million barrels of crude oil and diesel through the International Energy Agency. The plan begins immediately and runs for four months, with a front-loaded diesel release in the first 20 days.
The move comes after a sharp run-up in diesel prices and mounting concern over fuel supply tightness. Reuters, BBC, CBS and Bloomberg all reported that the agreement followed pressure from Washington, and that G7 members also pledged to avoid export restrictions on energy and energy products among themselves.
For energy markets, the key implication is a near-term increase in supply that could affect diesel cracks, refinery margins and global product flows. U.S. refiners and exporters, European diesel importers, and refinery names such as Marathon Petroleum and Phillips 66 are typically most sensitive to this type of policy-driven supply shift.
Trump also said the U.S. would not ban diesel exports. G7 officials framed the action as a coordinated stock release rather than a new set of export curbs, and their public statements are consistent on that point.
